Definition of VMware and What does it offer to you.

VMware is a virtualization and cloud computing software, when using Vmware server virtualization, a hypervisor is installed on the physical server to permit for several virtual machines (VMs) to run on the same physical server. Every VM could run its own operating system (OS), this means several Operating systems could run on one physical server. All of the VMS on the same physical server share resources, like networking and ram.

What more does VMWare offer?

Vmware offers, Vmware vSphere which is Vmware’s suite of virtualization products.  Vmware vSphere also known as Vmware Infrastructure prior to 2009, has ESXI, vCenter Server, vSphere Client, vMotion and more, As of April 2017, the most recent version is vSphere 6.5, it is available in three editions: Standard, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus.

Networking and Security

Another software VMWare provides is, Vmware NSX which is a virtual networking and security software, it was created when Vmware acquired Nicera in 2012. NSX grants an admin the ability to virtualize network components, allowing them to develop, deploy and configure virtual networks and switches using the software instead of hardware. A software layer is on top of the hyper visor to grant an administrator the ability to divide a physical network into several virtual networks.

Vmware vRealize Network Insight is a management tool for network operations which can enable an admin to plan micro-segmentation and then check on the health of Vmware NSX. Vrealize Network Insight on the technology from Vmware’s acquisition of Arkin in 2016.

Vrealize Network Insight retrieves information from the NSX Manager, while presenting errors in its user interface, which helps troubleshoot an NSX environment.

SDDC Platform

Vmware vSan is a software-based storage feature which is built into the ESXi hypervisor and joined with vSphere, it merges disk space from several ESXi hosts and supplies it using smart policies, like protection limits, thin provisioning and erasure coding.

A software for managing and recovering from disasters, Vmware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) this product grants an administrator the ability to make recovery plans which are automatically preformed in the situation of a failure. Site Recovery Manager allows admins to immediately manage the fail over and fail back of VMs, SRM also merges with NSX to preserve network and security policies on migrated VMS.

Digital Workspace

Workspace ONE allows an administrator the option to control mobile devices and cloud-hosted virtual desktops and applications using a single management platform distributed in either the cloud or on-premises. The Workspace ONE suite has Vmware AirWatch, Horizon Air and Identity Manager.

Personal Desktop

Vmware fusion is a software which can virtualize a Windows OS on Mac computers. The software grants a user the ability to change to the Mac OS and share data between the operating systems with out needing to reboot. It can also provide a user access to Windows applications on the Mac toolbar using Unity mode. Fusion allows an admin to ru Linux as well as a couple of other operating systems on a Mac.
